These delightful sandwiches, adorned with charming flower patterns, are trending across social media. Known as fruit sandos, they blend the best of sandwiches and cake—soft white bread filled with lightly sweetened whipped cream and vibrant chunks of fresh fruit. It’s a treat sure to win the hearts of both children and adults alike.
Ingredients
Serves 3
6 slices | White loaf |
300ml | Double cream |
2.5 tbsp | Sugar |
2 |
Small Clementines |
1 | Kiwi |
3 | Strawberries |
Preparations
Clementines: Peel by hand.
Kiwi: Peel, then cut two slices lengthwise from the center. Cut the two end pieces in half, making four pieces in total.
Strawberries: Remove the green leaves.
Whip the Cream: Add sugar to the cream and whip with an electric whisk until firm peaks form. For better results, ensure the cream is slightly thicker to help set the fruit more securely.
How to make clementine and kiwi fruits sando in a flower pattern
1. Spread the Cream: Evenly spread a couple of tablespoons of whipped cream onto two slices of bread.
2. Position the Clementine: Place a clementine at the top of a diagonal line on one of the slices, keeping in mind that the sandwich will be cut along this line to reveal the cross-section. Placing the clementine horizontally will create a radial pattern, while positioning it vertically will reveal two petals in the cross-section.
3. Place the First Kiwi Piece: Beneath the clementine, place one of the kiwi end pieces with the cut side down, and the flat surface facing up. Cover it with cream—this will serve as one of the leaves.
4. Add the Kiwi Stem: Place one of the middle kiwi slices on top of the previous layer, and cover it with cream. This will form the stem.
5. Add the Second Kiwi Leaf: Place the other kiwi end piece on top, with the cut side down and the flat surface facing down. This will be the second leaf.
6. Cover with Cream: Generously spread more whipped cream to completely cover the fruits.
7. Assemble the Sandwich: Place the other slice of bread on top to close the sandwich.
8. Wrap and Mark: Tightly wrap the sandwich in clingfilm, then use an oil-based pen to draw a diagonal line where the fruits are placed.
9. Chill and Cut: Refrigerate the sandwich for at least an hour. Once chilled, cut along the marked line to reveal the beautiful cross-section.
